Shahnaz Bashir
I am a Graduate Teaching Associate and Ph.D. candidate in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA, and a global scholar of communication, media, and journalism. My research brings together multimodal communication, critical communication technologies (including AI and social media), writing studies, and the sociology and philosophy of communication and journalism. Across these intersecting areas, I examine how communication shapes the cultural, political, and epistemic conditions of public life. I use these lenses to study conflicts and wars, technology, language, society and culture, religion, genealogies of communication and imaginaries of end times. My scholarship traces how communicative practices (visual, auditory, textual, embodied, and technological) produce knowledge and power, construct culture, and mediate collective everyday experience.
Alongside my academic work, I am a novelist and my two published works of literary fiction have received awards, critical recognition, and have been translated into multiple languages. I have an enduring commitment to storytelling across both scholarly and creative domains.
